This cost includes tournament entries, uniform, weekly skill sessions and twice a week team practices from September through mid-November. Once the tryout are completed for your age group, if selected your designated coach will provide spring costs.

Tournament Selection in the Spring/Fall

Coaches are given a list of potential tournaments to choose from, most within an hour drive of Starland. In the fall you can expect to play in 4-7 events over the course of 10 weeks starting mid-September and running through mid-November.

Peter Burke is entering his first year as Assistant Director of Supernova Basketball and third year as a coach at Starland. A student of the game his entire life, Peter values the importance of teamwork, selflessness, leadership and effort. He works with his players closely to bring the best out of them on and off the court.

Heath “Noopy” Teixeira’s career spans over 30 years in a variety of roles including player, scout, recruitment, development, trainer, management, assistant and head coaching. Whether K-12, travel leagues, AAU, college, clinics, combines, professional (PBL, NBL & ABA), or international basketball, the goal of developing athletes to work to their full potential both on and off the court are his priorities.

Dave “DJ” Jordan has been playing and coaching basketball for over 40 years. In 2006 he was inducted into the Stoughton High School Hall of Fame after winning the MVP Award in ‘82 and Best Defensive Player in ‘83. He’s been coaching at Scituate High School for the last 14 years and is currently the JV Head Coach.

Carol Fitzsimmons played basketball in high school at Fontbonne Academy before joining intramural and organized leagues at Boston College. She coached youth basketball in the MetroWest travel League for 10 years until 2018 when she became an IAABO certified basketball referee. She now refs all levels of boys and girl’s basketball from youth leagues to high school as well as adult leagues.

Jim Morocco is entering his first year as a Supernova coach. While at Fitchburg State University, Jim earned a degree in Fitness Management and lettered all four years in basketball, earning the honor of team captain as a senior. Coach Morocco was the assistant coach for four men’s and women’s NCAA Division III programs before coaching middle school girls’ basketball (grades 6 – 8) and freshman girls’ volleyball in Middleboro.

Jimmy Smith is currently in his third season coaching Supernova.  As a three year varsity player at Pembroke High School, his coaching philosophy revolves around practice–if you can display skills and an understanding of the game in practice then play time will follow. He’s currently the head coach at Pembroke Community Middle School and varsity assistant coach to the boys’ program at Pembroke High School.

Kyle Plant is entering his third spring season with Supernova and eighth season coaching youth sports. As a multi-sport athlete at Plymouth North High School, he learned many valuable lessons that he looks to pass on to his players. His main goal is to develop his players to the best of their ability so they’re successful on and off the court. He is currently an assistant coach at Marshfield High School.

James Osterfield is entering his second year as a Supernova coach, but has played and coached basketball for over 15 years. James played 3 years of Varsity basketball at Townsend High School and 4 years at the Bay State Olympic Games. His coaching philosophy is focused around outworking the opponent and working together as a team. Looking for that extra pass is key in his team’s framework.

Kevin Jackson is entering his third season with Supernova Basketball and twelfth overall, coaching mainly at youth programs in Stoughton. With a strong passion for the game, Coach Jackson has built a philosophy of ‘work hard, play harder’ as he strives to increase player confidence levels and drive results.

Sean Flaherty started his career playing basketball at Hingham High School before joining the team at UMass Boston. As a coach for over 10 years now, Coach Flaherty focus is to improve his players fundamental skills and situational IQ. He is a strong believer that all sports teach valuable life lessons that kids can use as they get older and turn into young adults.

Mark Longsjo played high school basketball in New Hampshire and has enjoyed coaching youth sports for many years. As a Supernova coach for the last three years, Mark continues to find success at the Division I level of competition.  His professional skills in mental health combined with his multi-sport expertise has created his coaching approach of competition, player development, and fun.

Ryan Keelan is entering his fourth season with Supernova and twelfth as a coach. Ryan views the game in an unorthodox way, and has designed a Grit & Grind philosophy around the ideal of out-working and out-grinding the opposition on both sides of the floor, mentally and physically. He is currently the Junior Varsity Head Coach for Hull High School.
